Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Draft Beer System?

Draft beer systems are liquid dispensing systems designed to store and dispense beer from kegs. This ensures that beer is served fresh and cold at the correct pressure and temperature.

How does a Draft Beer System work?

Draft beer systems function through the use of CO₂ or nitrogen gas. These gases keep the kegs pressurized at the pressures intended by the brewery and push the beer through the lines to the tap where it can be poured into a glass.

What unique draft systems does GS Draft offer beyond a standard tap setup?

We offer several innovative dispensing solutions. For example, our ReverseTap system fills cups from the bottom up in as little as 7 seconds with zero foam and 99% keg yield. Our QuickTap system delivers for high-volume venues by offering the fastest possible pours to keep lines moving.

Overall, every customizable system is powered by iPourIt technology, allowing customers to pour their own drinks using RFID cards or wristbands.

When are CO₂ and/or nitrogen used in a draft system?

Beverage-grade CO₂ systems are used for carbonated beverages such as beers, ciders, seltzers, sparkling wines, and carbonated kegged cocktails. Beverage-grade Nitrogen is used for still beverages such as red and white wines, cold brew coffee, and nitro coffees at a higher gas pressure. Nitro Stouts use a blend of 25% CO₂ and 75% Nitrogen.

What beverages besides beer can be served through a draft system?

Our draft systems can dispense a wide variety of beverages beyond beer, including wine, cocktails, cold brew coffee, nitro coffee, kombucha, seltzers, and other non-alcoholic drinks. Advanced technology makes it easy to choose the best gas blend, pressure, temperature, and more for each beverage type.

Can I serve both carbonated and non-carbonated drinks through a Draft Beer System?

Yes, depending on the type of drink, you can serve carbonated and noncarbonated beverages by adjusting the gas used and pressure levels in the system.

What components are required for a Draft Beer System?

A typical draft beer system includes Keg Couplers, Beer and Gas Tubing, Primary and Secondary Gas Regulators, Beer FOBs, Glycol Cooled and insulated Trunk Lines, a Glycol Power Pack, Tap Towers with Taps and Drip Trays, and a lot of stainless steel fittings and clamps.

How do I maintain my Draft Beer System?

Maintenance for a Draft Beer System includes, but is not limited to, Glycol Maintenance on your Glycol Power Pack every six months, Regular Beverage Line Cleaning and Sanitizing, changing out vinyl beer lines every 12-24 months, disassembling and cleaning your taps and keg couplers regularly, inspecting all insulated glycol trunk lines for damage, and breaking down and cleaning Beer FOBs every six months. Learn more here.

How often should I clean my Draft Beer System?

Your draft beer system should be cleaned regularly. Draft beer lines should be cleaned every two weeks with a caustic solution and twice per year with an acid line cleaning solution. Keep your equipment cleaned to keep bacteria and mold from growing in your cooler. Learn more here.

What are the benefits of using a Draft Beer System?

Several benefits come with the use of draft beer systems, especially for businesses that want to enhance customer experience. A draft beer system ensures that:

  • The optimal temperature is maintained for a perfect pour every time
  • There are a wide variety of beer options on tap, catering to diverse tastes
  • Optimized and speedy service during peak hours
  • Packaging waste is minimized by reducing the need for bottles and cans
What is a Crowler and how is it different from a Growler?

A Crowler is a single-use, sealed aluminum can filled fresh from the tap using a counter-pressure seamer, allowing beer to stay fresh for up to 30 days. A Growler is a reusable glass or stainless steel jug also filled at the tap. Both options are great for customers who want to enjoy beer at home.

How do I choose the right Draft Beer System for my bar or restaurant?

Choosing the right draft beer system depends on several factors, including the size of your venue, the number of beer lines you need, available space, and your specific beer storage requirements. Contact us for more details.

Can I install a Draft Beer System at home?

Yes, draft beer systems can be installed in home bars. There are various system sizes available to fit home setups, ranging from simple kegerators to custom-built systems.

How long does beer stay fresh in a Draft Beer System?

Beer that has been properly maintained in a draft system can stay fresh for 30-60 days, depending on the type of beer and how it is stored.

What types of kegs can I use with a Draft Beer System?

Draft Beer Systems are designed to work with ⅙ Barrel Kegs, ¼ Barrel kegs, Full Sized ½ Barrel Kegs, and Euro Kegs.

How do I troubleshoot common Draft Beer System issues?

Almost all draft beer issues are related to temperature, mainly keg storage temperatures and dispense temperatures. Other issues can be related to line cleanliness or gas issues. If you are having issues with your draft beer system, please contact us for assistance.

How do I know when it’s time to upgrade my Draft Beer System?

Consider upgrading your system if you experience frequent breakdowns, inconsistent beer quality, or if your system can no longer meet the volume demands of your business.

How much does it cost to install a Draft Beer System?

The cost of installing a draft beer system varies based on its complexity, the number of beer lines, whether it is a direct draw system with Taps on the cooler wall or a remote long draw system utilizing glycol-cooled trunk lines with your taps some distance away from your cooler.
